The Comoros Pavilion brought this little-known island nation to the world by exhibiting its unusual wildlife, unique landscapes and cultural achievements. Pico was tasked with highlighting Comorians’ desire for harmony between humans and nature through interior and exterior decoration and multimedia elements. The outside of the pavilion combined traditional architectural elements with sound and light effects for maximum realism. Windows at a model of the famous Old Vendredi Mosque were wide open, revealing a traditional wedding celebration within.
The rear of the pavilion presented the Comoros’ unique geography and wildlife through a coelacanth model and a mock-up of the mighty Karthala Volcano, while display cubes floating in an ‘ocean’ showed off unique features of each of the country’s four islands.
