Envisaged jointly by 24 United Nations agencies, funds and organizations and brought to life by Pico, the UN Joint Pavilion aimed to show off the wonder of the world’s marine life and highlight the challenges it faces. The spacious 1,200 sq. m. pavilion took visitors on a journey down through the earth’s atmosphere to the deepest reaches of the ocean,
illustrating how humanity is connected to the sea. The problems faced by the planet were vividly demonstrated through an oil cleanup activity and a model of a submerging island. The experience finished with visitors pledging to take action to protect the world’s oceans and coasts.
